We are pleased to invite you to the Pan-American Association of Philadelphia’s “Brazil on the Move in the 21st Century” Conference, which will take place on Thursday April 14th, 2011 at the Union League of Philadelphia.
Brazil and the United States have a history of strong bilateral relations founded on democratic values and shared commitment to peace and security in Latin America and around the globe. The eighth largest economy in the world, Brazil is a major producer of food, raw materials, and industrial goods. With its leadership in bio-fuel technology and discoveries of large amounts of petroleum and gas, Brazil is becoming a key player in the global energy equation. A growing internal market makes the country a magnet for foreign investment, while Brazilian capital now reaches across the globe. Diplomatically, Brazil’s global role is expanding in a number of directions, from international peacekeeping, to active engagement in regional affairs, and to the search for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. The conference will analyze the factors that shape Brazil’s increasing clout in international affairs, in hemispheric cooperation, and the policy implications for the United States.
